Why does the Moon change shape?

People think that the moon changes shape, in a way it does. You see, everyday you look at the moon it is seen in a different view. It
is in a different stage or better known as the way the moon is orbiting around the earth. The moon is approximatly 238,857 miles away from earth.
The moon goes through different cycles or as some may call it different phases. In the beginning of the phase or cycle people can not see the moon at all. Then the moon is seen as a sliver of light in the sky. As each day goes by the moon is starting to “get larger” and you are able to see it better. Around day 7 you will be able to see a half moon. As day 14 arrives the moon is now full and you can see the craters that are made by meteor rock traveling through space and crashing into the moon. The full cycle or phase will take approximately 29 to 30 days. The next phase or cycle will begin again. We get a new moon when the moon comes between the earth and the sun and the side facing earth is dark. We have a lunar eclipse when the earth, sun and moon are completely aligned.
The moon is the largest and brightest planet you will see at night. If you do not have a telescope you should go buy one and enjoy the wonders and splendors of our beautiful night skyline. If you have kids they will really love it, I know mine do!
