However, if we further delve into the application of geography, it becomes clear that geography is a stepping stone towards understanding many important aspects that govern our lives. Some of the crucial aspects of geography are discussed in this article.

Why is geography important in understanding politics?
The political environment that defines the quality of our lives is deeply affected by the geographical make-up of a nation and its neighboring entities. The seemingly unreasonable actions of many warring nations are often dictated by certain geographical limitations or issues that create a difference of opinions, such as sharing of common water resources. Presence or absence of geographical boundaries is responsible for making many nations either vulnerable or immune to siege by neighboring nations.

The resulting, peaceful or troubled history of a nation due to such geographical reasons in turn, dictates the overall orientation of its political policies, i.e. whether they are liberal or conservative in their approach or if their international political approach is that of befriending other nations or being extremely wary of making a commitment. Some of the most crucial political policies such as the expenditure on defence resources and budgetary allocation for protection against damaging weather patterns are indirectly influenced by the geographical patterns associated with a region.

Why is geography important in shaping society?
Geographic borders often create natural boundaries within a nation itself which eventually leads to demarcating various sections of society. As a result, the economic and social habits of every social group limited by its geographical boundaries are separate from the neighboring one. Societies that have thrived in kind and progressive geographical terrains have conventionally flourished and those that have inhibited geographically-challenging domains have developed a more aggressive method of sustenance since their access to natural resources is limited. Further, customs such as traditional clothing are often defined by the kind of weather patterns that are found in a region.

Geographical patterns also dictate the food habits and the general appearance of many communities. The degree of government funding allocated to the society’s economic development is often limited by the kind of spending that is needed to sustain basic needs such as water and basic food resources. This is why nations with more yielding, fertile lands and helpful climatic patterns have been able to sustain their economic progress while those in tougher, arid regions have had to compromise on socio-economic spending just to sustain basic means of livelihood.

People travel a lot these days, and there are just so many reasons why people do travel. The main reason why people travel more these days than before is better economy and easier means of transportation, but many of the reasons why people travel have always been the same. The number one reason is probably to visit family and friends. Nowadays people travel further and more frequently to visit family and friends than before, but this has always been a very important reason why people travel.

Another reason that has always been important is to find a new job. Before people often traveled to the major city in their area to find a job, while people nowadays may travel quite far to find the job they want, some people even to the opposite side of the earth.

Something which has gotten really popular the last 30 years is to travel to get a few weeks of summer during the winter in your country. In the US people can do this within their country, travelling to places like Florida and California, while people in Europe often travel far south to places like the Canary Islands and Egypt or to countries in South-East Asia like Thailand and Malaysia.

Another important reason why people travel is to experience another culture as well as specific sights they wish to see at their destination. This can be both famous buildings and constructions as well as just natural wonders and sights. Some people also just travel somewhere to experience a different culture than their own, without having and specific sights or other goals in mind.

Often the reason why people travel is a mix of all these reason, and some people also just want to get away from everything in their home country and find peace and seclusion. Many people lead a very hectic life these days with busy jobs and lots of responsibilities beside as well, and getting away from all of this for a period can be really important and necessary. Travelling can be fulfilling in so many ways, so it’s quite easy to understand why more and more people take time to travel whenever they can.

Many people have wondered why do cats knead and there exist several theories. The most popular theory however, is that it comes from the cats childhood. When a kitten suckles it will actually knead the stomach of it’s mother to make the milk flow more easily. As the kitten grows up the habit of kneading still stays there, and as an adult cat it will also knead. This habit is called milk kneading, and is one explanation why cats knead.

There is also another quite different theory as to why cats are kneading, that is that kneading originated back to the cats wild ancestors who had to tread down grass to make a temporary nest in which they could rest. When the cat kneads it presses downwards with it’s paw and exposes its claws. It closes it’s claws as it lifts the paw and the process takes between one and two seconds. Most cat owners see kneading as a problem, as it can be quite painful for the cat owner if the cat is kneading sitting in the owners lap.

Many cats purr when they are kneading, so this may be an indication that the cat is actually enjoying itself when kneading. This is the main reason why the first theory is the most likely one, and you can read about why do cats purr here.
