The sea is salty because of the way the water in the sea got there. Over millions of year water has rained over the land breaking up rocks and transporting the minerals into the sea. The ocean started up just slightly salty and then getting more and more salty as more minerals are transported into the sea from rivers all over the world. Throughout the world rivers carry about 4 billion tons of dissolved salt into the ocean every year, over billions of years that sure is a lot of salt.

So why is the ocean salty while the rivers are mostly fresh water? The reason for this is how the sun vaporizes the water in the ocean and rains it down over land. The sun vaporizes almost pure fresh water from the ocean, most of the salts are left behind. And even though rivers are mostly fresh water, the little salt each liter of river water brings into the sea adds up over millions of rivers and millions of years.

The sea water contain about 3.5% of salt today, that is 35 parts of salts for every 1000 parts of ocean water. In some places there is more salt while some parts of the ocean the salt level is way lower, that is in areas close to several big rivers where lots of fresh water runs into the sea.

We hope this answered your question “Why is the sea salty?”, if you have any comments of more questions please let us know by posting below.

A good answer to this question should be relevant and convince the people interviewing you that you are a good candidate for the job. To come up with a good answer to this question, you need to know two things, what skills and knowledge is needed for the job you are applying for and which of these skills and qualities you have.

Researching the company and studying the job description you are carefully is something that you have to do before any interview, I suggest you note a few skills that you have that the job requires. Then you put together paragraph that you believe answers this question. Think of it like a short sales pitch, selling yourself as a candidate to the job the company is offering. There is nothing wrong with emphasizing all your good qualities, but be relevant and try not to come off as you are just bragging.

Also try to include something that makes you unique in your answer to “Why should we hire you?”. I am talking about things like, always showing up on time, never miss deadlines, fast learner, work well together with others, etc. Personal qualities are ok to include as well, like good sense of humor, good listener, good at understanding other people, etc. Qualities and skills you mention can be backed up by examples, stories from your private life or from work where you used your skills to solve some sort of problem.

Hope you found this article useful, and please do leave a comment. If you have a good answer to “Why should we hire you?” yourself, please leave your answer here as a comment and you will get feedback on it, and you will also help others struggling to find a good answer to use in an interview.

Do you wonder why the world will end in 2012? Or will the world really go under in 2012 at all? Keep reading here and also check you my 2012 calendar.

There have been countless theories throughout history about how and when the world will go under, we call them doomsday theories, apocalypse theories or just conspiracy theories if you don’t believe in them.

The reason why 2012 is special is because the Mayan calendar ends December 21, 2012. Their calendar is called the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar, and it is a non-repeating calendar used by several Pre-Columbian Mesoamerican cultures, not just the Maya. This calendar counts the number of days that has passed since what the Maya believe was the creating date, August 11, 3114 BC in the gregorian calendar.

The believers in the doomsday theories of the end of the world December 21, 2012 claim there are many signs that foreshadow this event. Events they point to were the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, the Tsunami in Thailand December 26, 2004, the Hurricane Katrina August 26, 2005 and the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

The believers also have different ways they believe the world will end in 2012. We have claims that there will be a magnetic pole reversal, giant earthquakes all over the world, solar storms, nuclear war and that the mystical planet of Nibiru will hit earth and end all life.

None of these theories have any support from serious scientists, and even the Mayans themselves didn’t expect the world to end in 2012. They actually believed it would be a time of great celebrations and luck as the planet would have passed through one great cycle of their calendar. All we can do is to wait and see what happens, and hope that we will still be here for Christmas 2012.

It comes from a plant and not from a tree unlike other fruits, and it is a very popular fruit to eat these days. Many people claim eating bananas is very healthy, so you may wonder, why are bananas good for you?

There are innumerable benefits associated with this delicious fruit. Apart from keeping you fit and healthy, it also helps in preventing many diseases and illnesses, making it an indispensable part of your daily diet. It is packed with vitamins, minerals and is also a good source of potassium, manganese, amino acids, sugar and carbohydrates. It has a high percentage of fibre, both soluble and insoluble, which helps in curing many diseases, easing up bowel movement. Bananas are made up of three natural sugars – glucose, fructose and sucrose. This makes it a source of instant energy.

Numerous researches and studies have suggested that bananas have the ability to boost brain power and the leaning capabilities of the students. This ability of the banana can be attributed to the presence of high potassium content. For the same reason, bananas are considered to play an effective role in reducing high blood pressure and stroke. The presence of potassium helps in minimizing the amount of calcium purged from the system either through urine or in secretions such as sweat, which in turn prevents the occurrence of kidney stones and also reduces the risk of osteoporosis.

The banana is rich in iron and hence is beneficial for anemic patients. Bananas can reduce stress levels too. Bananas contain tryptophan, an Amino acid, which is considered to be the building blocks of protein, which facilitate the body to produce serotonin and it in turn helps in creating a stable mood by acting on the brain. It makes you feel happier and improves your mood. It also provides a relief for those suffering from heart burns.

Bananas are very rich in fibre content and this helps in curing any bowel related problems like constipation. For those who are suffering from ulcers, it is the only raw fruit that can be eaten without discomfort. Furthermore it also helps in preventing ulcers. It counterbalances over-acidity and lessens irritation of the stomach. Bananas are helpful in the treatment of various allergies, kidney disorders, tuberculosis and urinary disorders. It is considered to be highly effective in weight reduction as it fastens the digestion and elimination process. The swelling and irritation caused by mosquito bites can be cured by rubbing the affected area with the inside of the banana skin. Bananas are rich in zinc content and this helps in strengthening the hair thereby preventing hair loss.

The Banana is a product of nature. It is therefore a natural cure to many illnesses and also doesn’t have any unwanted side effects. It is a fruit which gives plenty of energy and vital nutrients to the body and it is imperative that this fruit be made a part of our diet. It helps in increasing the body’s stamina and is certainly a very healthy food.

The Internet is a bludgeoning behemoth of computers interlinked via a global system of electrical and optical cables, criss-crossing the earth globally. This global system of interconnected computer networks makes use of a worldwide standard as a means of communication – the TCP/IP suite. And why was the internet created?

The predecessor to the internet was the ARPA net. With the space race gaining maximum press exposure, the United states of America plunged into various other ways of gaining technological dominance over the Soviet Union. This led to the emergence of a research wing called the ARPA or the Advanced Research Projects Agency. ARPA called for research and exploration of various methods of communication. Before the internet, most communication networks between computers were local in nature, predominantly allowing file transfer between computers located within the locality, with the prevalent method of communication being the use of a centralized mainframe model which connected all these computers together.

Massive research was underway, with methods being devised to enhance modes of communication and to facilitate file transfer between computers spanning many miles in distance. The research led to several new developments. Circuit switching which had been the communication method of choice gave way to packet-switched networking, now the de-facto standard used over the internet. Packet switching led to the creation of the ARPANET and additional protocols were also put in place, the X.25. These networks were however disjointed, each being independent. There was limited scope for communication between independent networks. This called for further research. Ways to apply packet switching concepts over long distances were being devised to develop a standard way of communicating between networks.

Packet switching was used to unite several different networks through a standard protocol called the internet protocol suite. This finally led to the formation of a super-framework of networks. The Internet Protocol suite was developed with the belief that the network could exist separately from its physical form of implementation, over a virtual, theoretical data transfer model. Over the years, this network was fine tuned, spreading the idea of an inter-networked domain of computer systems globally, eventually spilling out into a massive system that we now call as the Internet.

Life is a really big struggle. Everyone has their big moments in life. Every person gets an opportunity to prove his or her mettle in the highest stage – on the stage of life. To make the most of the given opportunity, one needs skill and temperament. Everyone is born with talent, with a certain degree of skill, but that skill needs to be put to practical use where it can benefit the person directly, and given proper direction, that skill can benefit others around as well. Happiness is something we all pursue, we all wish to seize. True happiness lies in helping other people achieve their goals, helping yourself achieve the things you wished to be. Skill is something that every single human being possesses. It is just a matter of expressing it and tapping it in its entirety.

One weapon that everyone has access to, to hone their skill is knowledge. Knowledge is that one thing, which when put to use properly fetches happiness. Knowledge is the key to success and honing that knowledge, helps understand your skill set better. Knowledge can mould a fledgling, into a strong bird, lifting the bird up and helps it in scaling great heights. It gives you the freedom to choose the right from the wrong, and helps you understand and learn from your past mistakes giving you vital experience.

So you may wonder, why is college important? College in this context is very vital because it is the embodiment of knowledge. It is the institution which moulds you as an individual into a fine young man or into a fine young woman, giving you various survival skills. Skills that are put to practical use in your professional life, giving you the power to face the world, the power to scale heights and to reach for the skies.

Every child has a dream, and for that fledgling who dream to become truly big, education plays a crucial role. Once a child reaches the stages of adulthood, after high school, he/she gets the first glimpse of life. That first lease of independence needs a lot of preparation, professionally, personally and character wise, there needs to be a general shift in paradigm. You need greater acumen, sharper social skills and a nice character. All this is bred into each child since childhood right through school, but it peaks at the right moment in a college.

That is why college education is important. It is that preparatory platform which moulds you as an individual, gives you the weapons to face the harsh realities of life, and prepares you for that ongoing journey, enriching your life with experiences that you tend to reminisce during the latter stages of your life. When you enter college, you enter the portals of knowledge as a teenager on the verge of adulthood, and when you leave it, you carry along with you happy memories, memories of a long lasting friendship, of skills garnered, of etiquette gained and most importantly, you define yourself as an individual, traits that makes you unique and individualistic are brought out to the fore. You finally emerge out of college as an adult, and this is why college is important.

The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, USSR in short, was a commonwealth of 16 independent republics sewn together under the blanket of communism. The Soviet Union was formed in the aftermath of the First World War, when the Old Russian Empire collapsed during the Russian Revolution. Czarist Russia gave way to the communist Soviet Russia, under the leadership of Lenin. After Lenin’s demise, Stalin took over command and began to expand territorial lines with an aggressive foreign policy.

The Soviet Union had become a major force in the eastern front, driven by the principles of a communist state; it had formed the eastern bloc. Throughout its long history, the Soviet Union has had skirmishes of ideological and political nature with the west and with the USA, termed as the cold war, which amongst other consequences led to the space race.

The collapse of the soviet union can be attributed to several factors. The fundamental reason for its dissolution can be attributed to the cold war. Socio-economic factors and the growing resistance to central planning and migration to democracy are other major factors that ultimately led to the dissolution of the soviet republic.

After several bids to take over regimes in the eastern front with a high volume of military might, the soviet union had bartered aggressive territorial conquest for poor domestic development, and lack of economic elevation. Domestic economies were floundering and fiscal growth was declining severely. After many attempts to revive a declining economy, the soviet leadership under Mikhail Gorbachev, began to adopt a series of reforms all of which created a stir amongst the eastern bloc, especially in the Balkan countries and in eastern European nations.

With the looming threat of war building up along the borders of Afghanistan and Azerbaijan, the soviet block was under immense political pressure from all sides. Among a sea of changes to be introduced was the Law on cooperatives which was the most radical idea amongst the reforms enacted. It called for private ownership and the Gorbachev government allowed greater amenities, and in January 1987, in a bid to diffuse tension and allow greater participation in the Soviet administration, the Gorbachev government called for the combination of democratic elements such as multi-candidate elections into the Soviet political process. With greater rights, democratization began to weaken the control that the central government had over its sub-ordinate states. A severe drop in oil prices, lack of foreign exchange and a profound shortage of grains created an atmosphere of criticism within the soviet ranks, with many republic states criticizing the Moscow government of shoddy administration.

Several Soviet Socialist Republics emboldened by the increase in rights such as greater freedom of speech began to resist the central hold of the Moscow based Soviet regime.

Progressive decline in trade eventually began to lead to a dwindling economy, almost at the steps to bankruptcy. With attempts to seize control through a military coup de etat proving to be a failure, The Soviet Union finally succumbed to pressure when a power struggle saw Gorbachev stepping down and the reins of power were handed over to his successor Boris Yeltsin. The Soviet Union officially crumbled in 1991, and hopefully this article gave you insight into why the Soviet Union collapsed.

And they are right, but to really understand why The Battle of Gettysburg was so important, it is crucial to understand what was going on at the time.

The states of the southern United States called themselves the Confederacy when they formally broke away from the United States in an effort to become their own nation. The Confederacy made this move because they felt the northern politicians were not acting in their best interest concerning the nation’s laws and regulations. The South was primarily an agricultural economy while the North relied on manufacture and industry as its financial basis. When the North began to increase tariffs upon the goods from the South, the landowners began to rebel. They felt the high tariffs were excessive and punitive. As a result, they formed an alliance and seceded from the United States, whereupon the war began.

In 1862, things were not going well for the Confederacy in their western territories. Ulysses S. Grant had forged his way across the Mississippi River, a much-needed foothold for the South — lost to the North. They had also lost New Orleans and Vicksburg looked to fall soon enough.

General Robert E. Lee knew a foray into Northern territory would go far in mending those rips in the war-torn fabric of the Confederacy. The Battle of Gettysburg became quite important as the Southern Army forged a very deep path into Northern territory, and it became a great achievement for them. It did not bode well for the North and President Abraham Lincoln wanted very much to downgrade the appearance that the North was losing the war.

In July of 1863, the Northern troops knew that the Southern troops were somewhere in the North, but it was a chance encounter in the town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, that alerted them to the Southern Army’s exact whereabouts. The Southern troops held the town, but the Northern troops were able to reclaim and regroup in the hills around Gettysburg.

This was a good move for the North, as they were able to receive backup support in the form of much-needed troops and supplies. Before this point in the war, the South had been out-manning and out-gunning the North in the Eastern areas, under General Lee’s command. When the Battle of Gettysburg began in earnest, the South threw themselves at the Northern troops with their usual fervor. But the ensuing battle left the Southern troops worn out and without backup for their depleted supplies and thinning troops. President Lincoln was able to call the battle a victory for the North.

But more than a physical victory, the Battle of Gettysburg was important because it held a psychological victory for the North, as well. The Southern troops were decimated, demoralized and defeated. When the Confederate troops left the area, their train of wagons and ambulances stretched 17 miles long. As many as 4,500 Southern Confederate soldiers were killed, along with some 3,100 Union troops. While it did not decide the war, the Battle of Gettysburg is important because it turned the tide of war. Two years later, the North claimed victory.

The most important reason is probably because it brings you traffic, a well search engine optimized page will usually rank much better in search engines than a page which is not optimized. The better you rank in search engines, the more traffic you will get from them. And you do want organic search engine traffic, it’s the best traffic you can get and it’s free!

There are two things you want SEO to do for you, apart from ranking high in search engines to get traffic, you also want to rank high on the right terms so that you get targeted traffic. Targeted visitors are visitors that are really interested in what your website has to offer. To accomplish this you need to both do on site optimization to make sure the search engine bots know what your website is about, as well as trying to get people to link to your website using relevant terms.

When people link to you it will help your search engine ranking, a link to you is like a vote that your site is worth a visit, and the search engines picks up on this. The search engines also notice what the text on the link to you is, so if your site is about vacation rentals in Spain, it will help you a lot that links pointing to your website use the title vacation rentals in Spain. Lets take Adobe as an example, because millions of websites link to their Adobe PDF reader website using the phrase “click here to get Adobe PDF reader”, they rank as #1 in Google for this term. Just google the term “click here” and check yourself.

On site SEO has to do with titles of your articles, headings, sitemaps and how your website is organized overall. It is important that the search engines figure out what your website is about and what terms to rank the various articles for. This website uses the content management system WordPress, which is already set up using a structure which is very good for search engines.

I hope you understand now why SEO is important. There is tons of good information on how to do this for your website out there, and there are also lots of companies that work with this. Good luck with your SEO work.
